Two wheeler sales prop up overall growth in April2013-Feb 2014 period

The
overall domestic sales of vehicles during April-February 2014 grew marginally by
2.68pc over the same period last year, pushed primarily by the growth in scooters
and motorcycles sales
Two
Wheelers sales registered growth of 6.11pc in April-February 2014 over April-February
2013. Within the Two Wheelers segment, scooters and motorcycles grew at 21.43pc
and 2.88pc respectively, while Mopeds declined by (-) 9.16pc.
While
scooters and motorcycles registered positive growth, the rest of the segments
went negative. The sales of Passenger Vehicles declined by 5.91pc. Within the
Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility vehicles and vans dropped by 4.60pc, 5.02pc and 18.30pc respectively during April-February
2014 compared to the same period last year.
The
overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a de-growth of 19.71pc in April-February
2014 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial
Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered negative growth at 25.89pc and Light
Commercial Vehicles also dropped by 16.56pc.
Three
Wheelers sales declined by 11.33pc in April-February 2014 over the same period
last year. Passenger Carriers and Goods Carriers declined by 13.03pc and 3.49pc
respectively in period under consideration.
During
April-February 2014, overall automobile exports grew by 6.39pc. Passenger
Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers registered growth at 6.44pc, 16.40pc and 5.41pc respectively, while
Commercial Vehicles declined by 8.12pc.
